Where the sun lies down, you will find her. At rest in a ravine that draws a non-perpendicular line between here and some place yet unimagined. Arms outstretched to pink skies that waltz for no one. She is Leila George. Born in Australia and raised in the UK, the actress came to her craft via a route that unraveled itself by detours to dance and music—a course carved subconsciously but ever pointed to the silver screen.
‘We shall find peace. We shall hear the angels, we shall see the sky sparkling with diamonds,’ Russian playwright Anton Chekhov once wrote. Words that somehow radiate the energy of Leila’s journey so far, a wandering charged with a compassion that propels her to support the humanitarian efforts she holds close to heart. Climate activist, artist, woman, she is one who rides a gravitational force that is impossible to describe.
‘We shall see all the evils of this life, all our own sufferings, vanish in the flood of mercy which will fill the whole world,’ Chekhov also said. ‘And then our life will be calm and gentle, sweet as a caress. I believe that, I do believe it.’ Looking at Leila—she who is found where the sun is at rest upon the earth—one could imagine her believing in such gentleness, too. And wild as the wind, we may also believe it, bolstered by the breeze that is born of pink skies that waltz with us always.
