An ode to chaos
on what we deaden for the sake of decorum
Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti once said: 'It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.' Recently, I explored the sacrifices of self we sometimes (subconsciously) make when we stifle the full emotional and spiritual spectrum of the soul, so as to adjust ourselves according to the unspoken rules made by unknowing others. No one can take away our liberty to feel, but in the current cultural climate this right does not always equate to an automatic freedom of unfiltered expression. In light of the standardised silhouette of prevailing psychological configurations, few dare to fully surrender to sensations arisen within that seem dark, detrimental and unfamiliar. My piece 'An ode to chaos: on what we deaden for the sake of decorum' was featured in jane. magazine issue six, available via JANE + magnation.
